The unlikely hero thrown into chaos, trying to hold it together when everything goes off the rails. Stuart is a comic book store owner who never asked to save the universe and, honestly, probably shouldn't have been trusted with it. He's self-deprecating, well-meaning, and perpetually one bad decision away from making things considerably worse. For someone with his digestive track record, he really does follow his gut an awful lot. Is he ready for what's coming next? Probably not. Does he try anyway? Every single time.

The sharp, steady force who brings grit, heart, and no-nonsense focus when things get messy. Denise is the comic store's resident expert. She knows her stuff, keeps her cool, and is usually the one holding the group together while everyone else is spiraling — all while working on her screenplay. Her relationship with Stuart is a little less straightforward: she's his girlfriend…or his ex-girlfriend…or his future girlfriend. It's complicated.

Bert, one of Stuart's best friends, is the group's resident geologist; a scientist who has dedicated his life to the patient, methodical study of rocks. Bert moves at his own speed, which is to say, slowly and without apparent urgency regardless of how bad things get. Quietly hilarious, occasionally profound, and deeply committed to a calm that nobody around him has earned.

With rhotacism, a knack for ribbing people, and an ease for creating chaos and disruption, Kripke is an at-times antagonistic friend to Stuart, Bert, and Denise. A quantum physicist with a big ego and a sharper tongue, Kripke operates somewhere between ally and liability — he can be the most useful person in the room or the reason everything just got worse. And the line between those two things is thinner than it should be.
